Prepwork for new rigging

The rigging is in the works and will be put in place soon.
That means Ocean Wolf needs a touch of paint here and there.

The awl grip system seems to be the best. Although to the novice it is also a mighty complicate layer cake of primers, anti rust, filler, top coat, etc. All are some sort of epoxy that needs to be mixed from two components in various ratios. Oh, and one layer of each flavour isn’t enough, so multiple need to be applied with sanding before each layer.
Our current marina has an ‘awl grip application center’. I imagine this is ran by experts in white lab coats that finished a doctorate in advanced paint mixing and application.
That said, once properly applied the awl grip promises to keep the ship protected against the elements for the foreseeable future.

Hamann under repair – Water treatment

The hamann should trigger the sewage pump to run, but it doesn’t.
I.e. the pump works, but not when instructed by the hamann. There is mysterious wiring via the hamann/off/manual switch and some relays that is causing us headaches. It might never have worked properly, so we try to reverse engineer what it should do.

Winch nr one has been serviced

Some days ago we started the winch servicing process by disassembling it carefully.
inside we found lots of dried out grease and dust.
but overall the inside looked pretty good!
After disassembling it took us some days before we collected enough courage to start cleaning it.

After cleaning we greased all the bits and pieces and liberally applied antitrust compound as necessary.
Once done we proceeded to reassembled everything. Twice. The latter because some bearings fell out unnoticed during the initial reassembly 🙂
One down five more to go!

Masts

The Ocean Wolf masts are in need of tender love and care. Thus they are on the yard for a paint job.
Here is one in the tent that protects it against rain and dust:

Engine maintenance

After fulltime revision the Mercedes diesel would not run smoothly while stationary.
Investigation led to a suspect valve in the Dracor fuel filter. It seemed to let some air into the fuelline towards the engine.
After replacing the O rings the engine started to run ok after 30 seconds.

Our not so clean Racor:

The inter cooler of the main engine was mostly clogged up with dirt. It was cleaned and a fine filter was installed to prevent dirt from entering the intercooler again. We can now easily spot dirt in the filter via the looking glass.
